Prescribed Fire and Fuels Technician - Logistics

The Prescribed Fire and Fuels Technician - Logistics position will support the Forest Stewards Guild’s Fire Management program and be a member of the Gravitas Peak Wildland Fire Module. The position has both field and office responsibilities, including but not limited to supporting logistical needs for both the organization and implementation projects, engaging in prescribed fire operations and wildfire suppression, and fulfilling roles on a prescribed fire management team. Candidates should have a passion for increasing the pace and scale of prescribed fire, increasing diversity and inclusion in the fire practitioner community, and mentoring fire practitioners from underserved and underrepresented communities.  

Position Description

The successful candidate will have strong prescribed fire and wildland fire experience, planning document generation experience, strong organization skills, the ability to embrace adversity and uncertainty, and a clear commitment to working with diverse populations. Extended suppression fire assignments will be supported. They will:

  • Maintain Module apparatus, PPE, tools, and equipment.

  • Serve as chainsaw manager and fuels treatment field manager

  • Be responsible for 14-day self-sufficient assets and food program

  • Ensure overall Module fire readiness

The successful candidate will have strong experience in conducting wildland fire trainings, with a particular focus on saw training, extensive prescribed fire and wildland fire experience, strong communication skills, the ability to embrace adversity and uncertainty, and a clear commitment to working with diverse populations. They will:

  • Maintain and implement all aspects of the Fire Management training program.

  • Administer IQS, Module IDPs, and maintain partner training calendar and partner red carding

  • Assist on Module detailer program.

  • Implement partner training program, including coordinating S-212 and S-130/190 trainings.

Intermountain West Program Coordinator

The Forest Stewards Guild is hiring a full-time position in Colorado! The Intermountain West Regional Coordinator position will provide planning support and project management for forestry and fire projects in the Intermountain West region. This position will engage in a variety of projects, including writing community wildfire protection plans, forestry and fire research projects, outreach, prescribed fire, ecological and socioeconomic monitoring, and youth training. Candidates should have a passion for increasing the pace and scale of prescribed fire, increasing diversity and inclusion in the fire practitioner community, and building fire resilient landscapes. 

This position is the “first hire” for the new Intermountain West Region, and the ideal candidate will possess the desire and abilities to expand the position and increase the Regional presence. This position is not a primary fire position. Previous wildland fire operational experience is not required, but a desire to participate in prescribed fire is supported.  They will:

  • Support and/or lead planning document generation, including fuels specialist reports for Environmental Assessments, community wildfire protection plans, and other similar projects. 

  • Manage work assignments with minimal direction from supervisors

  • Provide planning support for Forest Stewards Guild projects, including Guild Fire Management activities.
